Electron Micrographs of Clay


These micrographs were produced at the
SDSU Electron Microscope Facility.
Magnifications are approximately 25,000 X.

EPK (Edgar Plastic Kaolin)
- (approximately 200Kb GIF image)
- a typical kaolin mineral. Note the hexagonal stack-of-cards shape.

- (approximately 200Kb GIF image)
- one of the most plastic clay minerals. Note the curved platelets.

Lincoln 60 Fireclay
- (approximately 100Kb GIF image)
- a coarser clay than typical kaolins. Probably a mixture of clay minerals.
